Grady celebrates opening of new south Fulton emergency department

On May 11, Grady Health System cut the ribbon on expanded health care access in south Fulton County.

Opening in June, Grady’s new freestanding emergency department, built in partnership with the Fulton County Government, will deliver a state-of-the-art, 20,000-square-foot facility that is fully staffed by board-certified physicians, nurses and other clinicians.

The clinic is designed to meet the growing need for emergency medical services in metro Atlanta and includes 16 exam bays, multiple triage rooms, resuscitation and observation areas, and advanced imaging, lab services and a pharmacy. It also has a dedicated ambulance entrance and a helipad for flight transfers to area hospitals.

The new facility is located south of I-20 in Union City, an area of Atlanta considered a health care desert. The emergency department is the first phase of Grady South, which will include a medical office building opening in 2027, and a new, 200-bed, full-service hospital expected in 2031.
