Georgia CORE and state drivers deliver $10K for cancer screenings at Grady

Thanks to Georgia drivers who bought cancer awareness license plates this year, Grady has been awarded a $10,000 grant for our cancer screening and education program. Grady is among the first winners of the grant from the sales of Georgia’s “All Together Stop Cancer” license plates, which went into circulation a few years ago.

“With this grant, we are able to provide free screenings and education services to more under- and uninsured patients,” said Pooja Mishra, vice president, Oncology and Sickle Cell. “Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in Georgia, so we must do everything we can to ensure all our residents have access to screenings. We are incredibly thankful for these new plates and this fund.”

Georgia CORE (Center for Oncology Research and Education) administers grants from the sale of this specialty license plate, as well as a breast cancer awareness plate. Each plate sold or renewed contributes $22 to the fund.

Opened in 2003, the Grady Cancer Center for Excellence treats thousands of cancer patients each year. The facility provides patient-centered cancer prevention and screening, treatment, research and education. Every patient receives the full range of services necessary to diagnose and treat their cancer, but also has access to clinical trials, screening and prevention events, palliative care, genetic counseling, rehabilitation, oncology nutrition, and survivorship services.

“We truly appreciate Georgia CORE and its support, which helps us continue serving as a trusted resource in our community,” said Mishra. “I hope more Georgia drivers will choose the cancer awareness plates to provide even more resources for this critical care.”
