Rep. Lucy McBath visits Grady’s Trauma Center, IVYY Program
Earlier this month, Grady welcomed Georgia Rep. Lucy McBath for a tour of the Marcus Trauma Center and a first-hand look at the ways Grady is addressing gun violence in our community.
The Marcus Trauma Center is one of the nation’s best, treating nearly 7,300 patients per year from metro Atlanta and the surrounding region. As a Level 1 trauma center, we have the experience, knowledge and cutting-edge techniques to diagnose and treat both life-threatening and less critical cases. Beyond our clinical expertise, we provide compassionate support services to help patients, their families and caregivers get through the immediate shock and deal with the residual effects of trauma, including social workers, interpreters, education, and post-injury therapies and rehabilitation.
Rep. McBath also met with members of our IVYY Program (Interrupting Violence in Youth and Young Adults), who share her passion for reducing gun violence and supporting victims in our community.
IVYY is an evidence-based, trauma-informed program for youth aged 14 to 34 who have experienced firearms-related interpersonal violence but are not in police custody at the time of referral. The program provides individuals, families and communities with resources that reduce recurrent injury and retaliation, while addressing social determinants of health and the root causes of violence.
We’re proud to showcase the incredible impact of our staff and programs, and grateful for the opportunity to highlight how Grady continues to advance health, healing and hope for all.
