PONCE DE LEON CENTER CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF CARE

In 1981, the world's attention was first drawn to the illness of AIDS. Fast forward 12 years and a beacon of hope emerged - The Ponce De Leon Center. As we celebrate its remarkable 30-year journey, The Ponce De Leon Center stands tall as a symbol of unwavering support for those who need it most. It is not just the largest but the most comprehensive advanced HIV treatment program in the entire United States.

Three decades ago, Grady stepped up, providing compassionate and high-quality care to those affected by this newly discovered disease. Thirty years on, Grady is still providing critical care to those who continue to be in need.

Currently, the HIV/AIDS epidemic is still present, especially here in Atlanta. Atlanta ranks in the top 10 in the United States in the number of new HIV diagnoses. At the same time, Georgia has the highest HIV rates among adults and adolescents, with Atlanta serving as the epicenter of this crisis.

Partners and organizations, such as Gilead Sciences, play a crucial role in ensuring that programs like the Ponce De Leon Center can persevere. Additionally, the contributions of Grady Health Foundation board members like Eliot Arnovitz and longtime physician of the Center, Dr. Phyllis Kozarsky, have helped its growth and success. Next month, the Phyllis Kozarsky, MD Conference Center will be dedicated in her honor.

The Ponce Center integrates primary internal medicine and Infectious Disease subspecialty care across its Main, Family, and Transition Clinics. It includes a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses. Serving up to 6,000 individuals, our passionate team of doctors and healthcare professionals is committed to bridging the gap - making it easier to access the care they require right in their own communities. They provide not only medical support but also a network of community services, all in one place.

Grady is at the forefront of the battle against the epidemic in the Southern United States. With your support, we can continue this crucial work.
