Mary Alice and Bennett Brown Foundation help little patients play

Grady's Walter L. Ingram Burn Center delivers specialized care for children recovering from burn injuries. To help ease that recovery, the Mary Alice and Bennett Brown Foundation generously donated $20,000 to furnish and equip the new playroom for pediatric patients at the Burn Center.

Burns are among the most painful injuries to treat, and the wound care required to prevent infection and promote healing can be agonizing. Beyond the physical and emotional weight of recovery, young patients often miss weeks of school, sports and the everyday activities that make up childhood. The new playroom exists to counter that loss, creating a space for play, normalcy and joy that gives kids a genuine break from the intensity of medical treatment.

The playroom features a range of activities and therapeutic tools designed to support both healing and healthy development. Grady's Child Life Specialists will use the space to guide therapeutic play throughout patients' extended hospital stays, help children process their medical experiences in age-appropriate ways, and foster connection among teen patients navigating similar journeys.

The room isn't just for patients. It's also open to siblings and the children of adult patients being treated at the Burn Center so that every child who could benefit from this healing, joyful space has the chance to use it.
