Grady Grateful Patient

Mary McCullough of Jackson, Georgia, shared the following story about her experience at Grady.

“On December 2, 2024, I fell down some stairs at home and sustained a C1 vertebral fracture, a 7-centimeter scalp laceration and a laceration to my right ear. My husband rushed me to Piedmont Henry, where I was immediately placed in a C-collar and started assessments. I never lost consciousness or any function. After MRI confirmed the cervical vertebral fractures, I was transferred to the Grady Trauma Center.

The care I received at Grady, from the Trauma Center staff, to ICU, as well as the surgical unit was top notch! Every doctor, nurse, aid, volunteer was professional and caring. As a retired RN myself, it was wonderful and surprised me and changed my opinion about Grady Health System.

The trauma team followed up with me each day and made sure that I had everything I needed prior to going home. I am blessed. God is not through with me. The injury to C1 could have made me paralyzed, on a vent or deceased if the spinal cord had been injured. Thank you, Grady staff!”
